The simplicity and convenience of Payne tear tape has enabled Brazilian confectionery manufacturer Docile Alimentos to provide easy opening for its range of 'Jelly Rolls' candies in a cost-effective and practical manner. Payne's solution has already prompted considerable positive feedback and increased sales for the brand.
Research indicated that children – the product's core demographic – were having difficulties in opening the packaging. Docile was therefore looking at options to improve easy opening whilst maintaining the overall roll wrap design of its packaging, which incorporates a twist at either end for a pleasing aesthetic effect.
A fellow manufacturer recommended Payne, the world leader in tear tape technology, and following discussions Docile recognised that the simple addition of a tear tape would provide a convenient and highly visual point of entry for young consumers.
The chosen tape is Payne Supastrip®, which uses advanced pressure sensitive, self-adhesive tear tape technology to ensure that pack opening is simple and fuss-free – a crucial consideration for confectionery brands that rely on impulse, 'on the go' purchases.
Docile benefits from Payne's in-line applicator, which adds the tear tape to the film during the packaging operation for a streamlined process. The tape is also supplied on long reel lengths to minimise the disruption caused by changeovers.
Payne has supplied a 1.6 mm tape with a prominent tab so that consumers can easily see the point of opening. A distinctive red colour enhances visibility.
Docile believes that the addition of tear tape into the Jelly Rolls packaging provides a strong point of differentiation for the brand. "The effortless opening provided by Payne's tear tape is something we feel will stimulate young consumers' imagination," confirms Sr. Fabrício Chemin, Packaging Manager at Docile. "This conclusion has already been confirmed by positive feedback received by our call centres and increased sales, underlining the success of our new easy opening solution from Payne."
