New Closures Reflect Growth of Plastics for Foodservice
New Closures Reflect Growth of Plastics for Foodservice RPC Containers Halstead has launched two new closures for plastic wide-mouthed jars, offering enhanced convenience and functionality for foodservice applications.

Many food manufacturers have been attracted to the benefits of plastics packaging – lightweight, shatterproof and, thanks to advances in barrier technology, offering a high degree of long-term product protection.

With this growing market in mind, RPC Halstead has invested in tooling to develop 89 mm and 100 mm screw-on plastic closures for wide-mouthed jars. Injection moulded in polypropylene, they are suitable for both retort and pasteurisation, making them ideal for foods with an extended ambient shelf life.

The closures can be specified with either a peelable or welded induction heat-seal barrier liner to complete the pack.

The closures use a single start thread, meaning that the cap must be fully turned to be opened, an advantage in busy catering establishments where there is a risk of accidental spillage.

Both sizes are fully compatible with the standard range of foodservice jars manufactured at sister sites RPC Corby and RPC Kutenholz. Available in white or black as standard, the closures can also be colour matched to suit specific branding requirements.

"With glass replacement an increasing trend, food manufacturers require robust, convenient closure solutions to suit plastic foodservice jars," comments Phil Goodwins, Sales & Marketing Manager at RPC Halstead. "The launch of our new wide diameter cap sizes meets this growing demand."
